Never say never...

Well, looks like this world wasn't quite through with me. I've partnered up with TPM Customs, and a few other craftspeople, modelers, artists (Andy Garringer, Bob Horne, Jim Graham, Steve Wright and more to come) to present a new website aggregating the best upgrades, parts, accessories and information on modeling the 1966 Batmobile! We'll be adding slowly to the site but it will be live in late March, 2008 with products and info. Please stop by. http://www.pimpmybatmobile.com/

All good things.

When I created this website, my intent was not to build a thriving new place to foster the selling of my custom toys, but rather to acknowledge the many years I spent doing it, the part of my life it financed - and to serve as a permanent gallery of the work itself. And if I still found the time to do a bit of new work here and there and was able to photograph it - so be it.

As is often the case - life gets in the way. In this case - life needs to get back in the way. :)

I am dismantling as much of this part of my life as I can. As fast as I can. The reasons are many. The collection will be vastly reduced and sold off. The orders and commissions are done.

The website will continue to be a collection of my strange crafts, new and old. And I will still be able to be contacted via the email account.

Take care. Thanks for looking.

Jim Maddox JLA Sculpts

Finally received these last week. Couldn't resist kicking out this one right away. Brush painting is therapeutic.

Mego TV Batcopter

I rarely work in true Mego 8" style. But I just ressurected an old project. I had purchased a couple of these vaguely Bell 47-ish Helicopters from Cotswold's about 7 years ago hoping they'd be a good 1:6 scale Batcopter base. Well, as you can see - they are not very detailed, much more toylike than 1:6 scale figures deserve and much too small for a full 12" figure. There's not even room for Mego Robin to join him! So I shelved it for a long while. Then I thought - wait, the Mego guys might like a better, more accurate Batcopter that still fits the 70's Mego-style and this would be perfect for that project. And of all the vintage Mego vehicles, the Batcopter was the wackiest looking flying yellow slipper thing that never made sense. So here is a first look at my revised Mego Batcopter (for sale) I still have to add a few support struts for the wings and some interior details, but not too many - I want to keep this Mego-riffic.

TV Bad Guys

These were purchased by a customer of mine for a commission of three figures. The customer backed out and I finished them up and they are for sale now on ebay. Good for any 1:6 scale project.

Right now I am cruhing to finish stuff for holiday sales. 4 Batgirl models, 1 Robin model, 2 batphones, assorted dolls. Only some of which was on the desk when this was taken.

Music On The Site

In an old school move, I have lifted a middle finger to the "Silent Web" and added a few wav file loops that I created originally for my sister's one-woman play - "Rant" If you linger long enough on the FOYER, the HOME menu or the GALLERIES menu page, and if you have speakers and volume turned up - you will here them. Only a few people have asked about them so I assume most people are shuttling right past them. That was more or less my intention. If you are taking it all in slowly - you get a prize and can then move on. If you're eager for the berries of the site - you'll never hear them. And - since I realized that I usually hated unwanted music blasts when I visit sites, I only put them on access road pages, that you take to get somewhere else. I didn't want to get hate mail. So for those of you who DID ask - the Foyer page is Smashing Pumpkins, the Home page is Yazoo and the Galleries page is Peter Gabriel. I edited these loops in Soundforge, after Jay did most of the real work in the studio originally. Technically they are possibly illegal, though I am only using about 3 seconds of them and that makes it a grey area.

Overcome

June 10, 2005
My Mother passed away today. I'm sure I'll have some journal entries about it in the writing section someday. I wrote her eulogy and that is up there right now. It has put a temporary hold on anything creative or toy related, so I'll see be away for awhile. Probably not long because this has always been and I hope, will remain to be an outlet for me. Painting, writing, creating is usually the only thing that helps me.

Finished Kimba

Alexander helped with the landscaping of the base. I may still put a nameplate on it but it's been sitting here for years undone so I'm just happy to have it finished. He'll be in the models section at the end of the month.

Welcome to the inevitable.

I tried doing my own news update page via the site. But it just would never be updated that way. This way - I'm going to be able to add to it more easily, you can comment back, and it may actually get some updates once in a while.

Wow, May.

i-tunes of note playing while I work: Morrissey - Friday Mourning,
I am struggling to finish the web-pages to make them easier to navigate. And still don't have all galleries up. But - the 12" doll gallery, the 9" doll gallery and Models/Figures galleries are now up. Toyfare just asked to feature the George Reeves 12" doll in their magazine next month.
